The Moment I Knew Something Had to Change

This week I want to share something a little more personal with you.

A Weekend For Me, my signature retreat, wasn’t just an idea. It was something I needed. At the time, I was a new mom, a new wife, and a full-time physician. On paper… I had everything I had ever wanted.

But in reality?

I was exhausted.

Disconnected.

And quietly miserable.

I wanted to spend quality time with my husband and my daughter—but I was too drained to be fully present.

I felt like I was failing everywhere. I was too tired to be the wife and mother I wanted to be and too distracted to be the doctor I wanted to be.

Not because I wasn’t doing enough…

but because I was doing everything—and there was nothing left for me.

Then my husband and I went away for a long weekend.

I was sitting alone on the beach in Jamaica, and for the first time in a long time,

everything was quiet.

No responsibilities.

No demands.

No one needing anything from me.

And in that space, between the crashing of the waves…

I could finally hear my own voice again.

And what she said was clear:

“This is not sustainable. You can’t keep doing this. You are not well.”

That moment changed everything.

It set me on a path to redefine what it meant to actually be well—mind, body, and spirit.

And over time, I began to make different choices.

Not all at once.

But slowly, intentionally.

I stopped trying to fit my life around my career…

and started building a life that reflected my true priorities.

Today, I get to be present in the ways that matter most to me.

But it all started with one thing:

Space.

That’s why I created A Weekend For Me.

Because I know what happens when you finally step away long enough to hear yourself again.

And I know how powerful that moment can be.
