What if you don’t need to figure it out tonight?

What if you don’t need to figure it out tonight?

September 04, 20263 min read

Maybe you know something needs to change.

You just don’t know what.

Or maybe youdohave an idea of what you want but as soon as you allow yourself to consider it, all the other voices show up.

What will people think?

What about everything I’ve worked for?

What if I make the wrong decision?

What if what I want doesn’t make sense to anyone else?

So you do what capable women do.

You try to figure it out.

You lie in bed running scenarios.

You research.

You make lists.

You consider every possible outcome.

You wake up the next morning and start thinking about it again.

And somehow, the harder you try to find the answer, the more exhausted and confused you become.

Maybe the problem isn’t that you haven’t thought about it enough.

Maybe you haven’t had enough space to hear yourself clearly.

I remember a season when my life looked perfectly fine from the outside.

I was a physician. A wife. A mother.

I had built the life I had always wanted.

And I was exhausted.

During a long weekend away on a beach in Jamaica, I finally got far enough away from my everyday responsibilities to hear something I had been too busy to acknowledge:

This is not sustainable.

I didn’t leave Jamaica with my entire future mapped out.

But I came home knowing I could no longer pretend that the way I was living was working for me.

And eventually another question became possible:

If I don’t have to keep doing life this way, howcouldI do it?

That question changed a lot for me.

My first career pivot wasn’t dramatic. I changed how I practiced medicine.

But that relatively small change gave me something incredibly important:

evidence that another way was possible.

And once I knew that, I could begin imagining other possibilities too.

Maybe that’s where you are right now.

You don’t necessarily need to quit your job.

You don’t need to move across the country.

You don’t need to blow up your life.

And you certainly don’t need to have the entire next chapter figured out.

But you may need enough space to ask:

What do I actually want?

What no longer fits?

What am I afraid other people will think if I change?

What would I explore if I didn’t have to immediately explain or justify it?

And one of my favorite questions:

How can I?

This why I created A Weekend For Me

Not because I believe four days away will magically solve your life.

I don’t.

But I know how difficult it is to evaluate your life when you are constantly immersed in the responsibilities, expectations and noise of that life.

At AWFM, our mornings are intentionally meaningful. We reflect. We have conversations. We ask questions we often don’t give ourselves enough time to ask.

And then we create space.

Space to walk along the beach.

Space to rest.

Space to journal.

Space to sit with a question instead of immediately solving it.

Space to have a two-hour conversation with another woman who understands what it feels like to be standing at a crossroads.

Space to imagine.

Because sometimes you need enough distance from the life you’re living to begin seeing the life you could be creating.

If you’ve been thinking, Something needs to change, but I don’t know what comes next, perhaps you don’t need another night of trying harder to figure it out.

Maybe you need some space.
