I was guilty of this for so much of my life.

I lived as an apparent mind reader.

I hid. I made myself shrink. I deferred to others. I didn’t own my voice. I convinced myself that I my ideas were not worth sharing. I thought everyone else was smarter than me.

Why?

Because I didn’t know who as was.

👑 I didn’t remember that I was descended from people who survived the middle passage from Africa to endure chattel slavery and segregation in this country.

👑 I didn’t remember that I was a part of the only 7% of people who are accepted to medical school.

👑 I didn’t remember that I was one of the only 2% of physicians who are African American females.

👑 I forgot about the countless lives I’d saved during my career– the countless babies I’d delivered and the countless women who’s quality of life, through all the stages of life, was improved because I cared for them with excellence.

Most important, I forgot that I was uniquely made, a designer original. I have gifting that only I possess. I am one piece of the puzzle that is life,  but without my piece, the world is incomplete. I am vitally important and so are you! Our voices are meant to be heard. The world needs us! We try so hard to fit in, but we were born to stand out. Your uniqueness is your superpower!
