If Life Has Been Lifing, This One’s for You
I know I’ve been quiet lately. If I’m honest, life is lifing at warp speed. In the past few months, I’ve found myself attending more funerals than birthday parties. I lost my godmother in January. I attended the funeral of a cousin-friend’s father a few weeks ago.
The past two weeks have hit especially hard as my dear mother-in-law passed away after years of fading due to dementia. She was in hospice for less than a week. I feel life shifting. The generation before us is slowly leaving. The generation after us is rising. And here I sit in the middle of it all trying to stay grounded and find my true north.
Maybe you’ve been feeling it too.
Midlife has a way of asking questions we can't ignore.
Who am I without my parents?
Who am I when my children no longer need me in the same way?
Who am I if this relationship changes… or ends?
Is this all there is?
These aren’t small questions.
If you’ve been feeling a little tired, restless, or unsure lately, you’re not alone. This season is a perfect storm.
Your body is changing.
Your roles are shifting.
Your responsibilities are expanding.
And somewhere in the middle of all of it…you are left struggling to find yourself.
It’s no wonder you’re exhausted and unsettled!
But here’s what I’ve also noticed, there is something sacred about this season. As heavy and sometimes unwelcome as it is, there is also an invitation. An invitation to be more present with the people you love.
✔️ To say the things that matter.
✔️ To put the phone down and really be there.
✔️ To capture the moments that, one day, you’ll be so grateful you didn’t rush through.
And there is also an invitation inward.
✔️To pause.
✔️ To reflect.
To ask yourself, gently and honestly:
Am I happy?
Am I living in a way that feels true to me?
What do I want now?
Not what you wanted 10 or 20 years ago. Now. Today.
Because the truth is… life is finite. And midlife has a way of making that real. Not in a way that should scare you. But in a way that will I hope will wake you up.
You are not at the end of something. You are in the middle of becoming. You are wise enough now to know what matters. Resourced enough to make meaningful changes. And young enough to create an entirely new chapter. There is still so much life available to you.
